Love is in the Air

Can’t you feel it?  Love is in the air.

Its cold outside and it’s time to turn up the fireplace and cuddle up next to someone you love.  Even the dogs want to snuggle for warmth.

Valentine’s Candy is every where.  This reminds me if I devour 2 lbs of See’s Candies chocolates (www.sees.com) then I’ll also get a rush of the “Love Chemical” phenyl ethylamine which in turn causes the brain to release mesolimbic dopamine in the pleasure centers of the brain.  I also am reminded that I’m going to gain 10 lbs and won’t feel so lovely looking.

Lattes.  There isn’t anything like a latte to warm up the bones.  Since I’m cutting back on coffee lately, I’ve turned to an entire potpourri of steaming hot teas in the evenings.  There are medical benefits by drinking tea, it prevents: arthritis, bone loss, cancer, flu, heart disease, high blood pressure and the list goes.  “Honey, can you get me another hot tea?”

There is a Valentine’s Day Couples Retreat coming up at Lake Forest Ranch, Macon, GA (www.lakeforestranch.com).  Our friends, Jerry and Jackie Jackson, run the camp.  We plan to go for spiritual refreshment, bible study, candlelight dinner, music and more.  We might need this couples retreat; after all, Mike and I are totally incompatible on every personality test.  In a Myers Briggs seminar, the instructor even commented on our polar opposite scores – what’s with that?  On another test, I’ve been labeled a fun loving otter while Mike is a conservative one-minded beaver.

Besides cozy fireplaces chocolate, lattes, hot tea, and a sweetheart getaway, there is also something else is the air… airborne germs.  I bought those Airborne vitamins but I quickly found out you are supposed to put the large tablet in a glass of water and wait for it to fizz.  Instead, I plopped it on my tongue and marveled at all the fizz and sparkles going on.  I nearly gagged.

I guess you might say I was a little late with the vitamin regime, because I now have a full blown sinus infection.  I’m so appreciative to get in to a local clinic first thing this morning and thankful that I got my medicine so quickly right across the street.  After my first ever steroid injection and the Z-Pac (ZITHROMAX) antibiotics, and thankful for time off from work, I’m off on the road to recovery. Plenty of time to sneeze, lay down, get up, and sneeze some more.  Lying in bed, I gaze on a vase of flowers my hubby gave me to cheer me up.  Cocomo, our black lab, and Willie, our cinnamon lab, know I’m sick and snuggle next to me in bed.  As I look at their sympathetic eyes, I wonder, “Why don’t you ever get sick?”

As we turn on the news and get depressed about the economy, cringe at more layoffs, and groan at our 401K retirement plan shrinking, I still think we need to be grateful, for having a home and a place to sleep, money to buy food and clothes, pay our bills and a little left over to go out to eat once in a while.  Unless you’ve experienced what’s it like to be at rock bottom with nothing, then it’s hard to appreciate the fact that God has you in the grip of his hand.  With all our ups and downs in life, God is there.  We must have faith in our Maker, believe He is sovereign and “know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28.  So everything will work out—don’t worry.

Love IS in the air.  What would you say is the greatest act of love?  It’s not a fireplace, flowers, chocolate or a dinner.  You know God loved us so much and wants for us to be with him in heaven one day that he made a way for that to happen.  It’s mind boggling, that he allowed his only son to die on a cross for our sins.  So if you don’t feel like anyone loves you, remember that God does and He did something inconceivable to show that.

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John. 3:16
