What is Easter? Is it Candy and Eggs? Or About the Cross?
I was about 10 years when I lived right across from the South Clairemont Rec Center in San Diego. I remember the annual Easter Parade and most of all the Easter Bicycle Decorating Contest. You could decorate your bike and win some money. I was all in! I had a new Schwinn girls’ bike that …

Waiting for the Angels to Come – They Did
It was a Monday night and my mother’s breathing continued to get slower and slower. I felt like a bee buzzing through her room to check on her, then resting on the couch, then back again. She was totally unresponsive to all sounds such as talking, singing, and the oxygen concentrator machine grinding away. Even …

Easter: The Gift That Changes Everything
As I look back 2,000 years ago, my focus is drawn to the large stone that rolled away from where Jesus was buried. The Stone. Experts say that the stone may have weighed as much as two tons. It was so heavy that it would take 20 men to move it. On top of that, …
My Velvet Hot Pants – Modesty in a World Where Anything Goes
It was 1971 when I sat in my bedroom and pondered what I could make with some extra dark green velvet fabric. The material was left over from a prom dress I made. I had enough material for hot pants, proudly wore the hottest style to Junior High School. There was a school-wide assembly that …

They’ve Gone to A Better Place – Really? Things People Say When Someone Dies
If you are like me, you may cringe at what someone says. One of the things I cringe at are what people say when someone dies. I often wonder if they realize what they are saying. “They are In a Better Place” As an example, the mother of someone I know recently passed away and …
