Yummy Swiss Cheese Fondue Recipe

Fondue is the perfect dish for a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner, a special occasion, a holiday gathering, or entertaining guests. Swiss cheese fondue combines two Swiss cheeses, white wine, and aromatic spices into a warm mixture ready for dipping. You can enjoy it with cubed pieces of French bread, apples, celery, or other foods. If you haven’t experienced fondue before, I highly recommend getting an electric fondue pot set. It’s fantastic for various fondues, and my favorite is chocolate. Enjoy the joy of sharing and dipping with friends and loved ones!

Total Time: 15 mins

Servings: 6-8 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 garlic clove, halved
  • 1-pound Gruyère cheese, grated
  • 1/2-pound Emmentaler cheese or other Swiss cheese, grated
  • 1 cup dry white wine
  • 1 tablespoon plus one teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • Freshly grated nutmeg

Directions

Step 1

Rub the inside of a cheese fondue pot or medium enameled cast-iron casserole with the garlic clove; discard the garlic.

Step 2

Combine the grated cheese, cornstarch and lemon juice, stirring to combine. Add to pot and cook over moderate heat; cook 30 seconds or until mixture is hot, stirring constantly. Add Gruyere and Emmentaler cheeses, stirring occasionally, until the cheeses begin to melt, about 5 minutes.

Step 3

Reduce heat to low. Add a generous pinch of pepper and nutmeg and stir gently until creamy and smooth for about 3 minutes; don’t overcook the fondue, or it will get stringy. Serve at once.
